Because of the war, Intazar had to flee Khartoum province with her children. For the widow, the escape was extremely arduous. The family has found temporary refuge in Eri camp in the remote Nuba Mountains. But even here, daily life is fraught with challenges. CSI is providing emergency aid to IDPs.

“My name is Intazar. I am forty-five years old, and I am a mother of five children. I came here in November after fleeing from Khartoum Province because of the war.
My husband is no longer alive. I lost him during the conflict, and since then I have been alone, taking care of my children by myself. Life became impossible in my village. There was fighting everywhere, and it was no longer safe to stay.
We traveled for many days, moving from place to place with other families. The journey was very hard and very frightening. Along the way, we had an accident. I was hit on the head, and since that time my right eye has been badly injured. I still cannot see properly, and it affects everything I do.
I was very afraid during the journey. There was violence, confusion, and fear all around us. But I thank God that I survived and managed to bring my children here safely.
Now that we are here, I feel safer. I can sleep without hearing fighting every night. But life is still very difficult. Because of my injured eye, I cannot work much. Sometimes I do small tasks nearby when I am able, but most of the time I am weak and in pain.
Before the war, I used to work and support my family. Now I have no stable income, and it is hard to provide food and cover the school needs for my children.
I would like to go back home one day, but only if there is peace. Right now, life there is still too dangerous and too difficult. For now, I prefer to stay here where we are safer, even though life is hard.
My hope is for peace, healing, and a better future for my children.”
