Beni Suef

Child labor is widespread in Egypt despite the Government’s commitment to eradicate it.

According to the US State Dept. in its human rights report, up to 1.5 million children between the ages of 12 and 18 are employed.

Beni Suef, a rural area, is one of the poorest areas of Egypt with an illiteracy of around 44 percent. In Egypt, the average illiteracy is 22 percent.
